Flutter Entertainment Expands Board with Two New Director Appointments

Flutter Entertainment, the global leader in online sports betting and iGaming, has appointed Christine M. McCarthy and Robert R. (“Dob”) Bennett to its Board of Directors, effective July 30, 2024. Ms. McCarthy will contribute to the Audit Committee, while Mr. Bennett will join the Risk and Sustainability Committee.

John Bryant, Chair of the Flutter Board, expressed his enthusiasm about the new appointments: “Christine and Dob’s extensive experience in the entertainment industry will be an invaluable asset to Flutter as we continue to extend our leading position as a global online sports betting and iGaming provider. Christine M. McCarthy is a highly respected executive in the entertainment sector, having held several senior leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company. Her most recent position was as a Strategic Advisor. Before this, she served as the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Disney. Ms. McCarthy joined Disney in 2000 as Senior Vice President and Treasurer, later advancing to Executive Vice President for Corporate Real Estate, Alliances, and Treasury, before becoming CFO. She currently holds directorships at The Procter & Gamble Company, where she chairs the Audit Committee, and FM Global, where she chairs the Finance Committee.

Robert R. Bennett is the Managing Director of Hilltop Investments, LLC, a private investment firm. His previous roles include President of Discovery Holding Company and President and CEO at Liberty Media Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Bennett has professional experience with Tele-Communications, Inc., and The Bank of New York. He is currently a director at HP Inc. and Liberty Media, and his past directorships include Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., Sprint Corporation, Demand Media, Inc., Liberty Interactive Corporation, and Sprint Nextel Corporation.

In other news, Flutter Entertainment has been named in TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024 under the ‘Pioneers’ category. TIME’s prestigious list was created by soliciting nominations across various sectors and consulting with a global network of contributors, correspondents, and external experts. The companies were evaluated based on their impact, innovation, ambition, and success, resulting in a diverse compilation of 100 businesses making significant strides.

The recognition by TIME highlights the collective achievements of Flutter’s global team and its market-leading brands. In the past year, Flutter has solidified its position as an industry leader, boasting 12.32 million active monthly players (AMPs) and £9.51 billion in global revenue for fiscal 2023, reflecting a 25% year-over-year increase. For the quarter ending December 31, 2023, Flutter reported 13.58 million AMPs and £2.67 billion in global revenue.

Another Round Of Layoffs Hits 2K Games

2K Games has laid off an unknown number of developers at Visual Concepts, the studio behind games such as NBA 2K and Lego 2K Drive.

“Well… the games industry bloodletting continues. Today Visual Concepts Austin laid off myself and a group of very talented developers,” said former art manager Brad Bowling on LinkedIn. “I have had a great time over the past couple of years working with some of the finest game devs in the industry. Over the past 23 years of making game art, I have seen some downturns but nothing like this.”
